Soft Surroundings is searching for an Inventory Control Planner for our St. Louis headquarters. The Merchandise Planner develops, manages and executes sales, inventory and margin plans that tie to financial targets for all assigned category(s) and channels. This individual contributes to the success of the organization by forging strong cross-functional partnerships, correlating historical and current trends, planning and forecasting multiple monthly and annual KPI's, optimizing inventory and is able to present, articulate and defend their plan position. Responsibilities:

  • Partner with buying team to develop preseason plans for sales, inventory, gross margin. Drive development of assortment plan targets for style and choice counts, size ratios, and other merchandise attributes. Consistently monitor sales and inventory in season, and take action when required.
  • Maintain and execute financial plans and open-to-buy forecasts by channel for assigned merchandise types.
  • Partner with buying, procurement and allocation teams to execute business initiatives. Meet on consistent basis to review results, opportunities and concerns.
  • Prepare hindsight analysis for future plans and strategies
  • Manage inventory effectively and profitably with strong preseason buy plans, in season best seller reorders, and effective promotion/markdown tactics.
  • Manage inventory position across channels to assure optimal mix. Emphasis on maximizing sales and gross margin by maintaining effective stock position, reduction of overstock/understock in stores and in catalog, and minimize backorders.
  • Understand receipt flow and capacity constraints with help of Inventory Control Buyer & Visual & Retail Operations
  • Execute regular plan revision in an effort to maximize sales, inventory, and profitability
  • Accurately assess financial risk associated with unproductive inventory and closeouts. Perform in-season discounting analysis to support exit strategies and related timing and execution
  • Support and Drive the monthly plan review process
  • Deep dive into style plans. Identify opportunities to drive style and material performance to increase top-line sales while mitigating bottom line risk
  • Review category level roll-ups in relation to prior forecast and original plan. Provide feedback and direction to team consistent with the company's top-down goals

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field and/or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience in planning and forecasting field required
  • Excellent written and oral communication with all levels
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
