We are excited to add an Apparel Buyer - Internet to our team at our Corporate office in St. Louis, MO. This person will have the ability to exceed corporate sales and profit objectives by obtaining the most saleable merchandise, with a soft hand (in keeping with our brand image) for our targeted customer, offering the greatest value and quality possible on a timely basis. We provide full benefits, including 401(K) with company match, competitive pay, generous employee discount, profit sharing potential and an opportunity to work with a successful and growing company.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor overall market, fashion trends and competition.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of customer profile, plus past and current buying trends.
  • Assist in the development and execution of merchandise plans overall and for a specific area of responsibility.
  • Plan and execute the optimum market coverage to select and secure profitable catalog/retail/Internet offerings.
  • Negotiate prices, backup availability, advertising, co-op, exclusives and timely deliveries.
  • Establish optimum selling price points to achieve corporate IMU goals while maximizing sales.
  • Identify private label opportunities, working with the market and internal design team.
  • Communicate potential fit concerns to Technical Design on a timely basis to reduce return rates.
  • Work with the Inventory Control Planners to secure complete and timely deliveries to reduce cancels and increase fill rates.
  • Research and develop new vendor/resources interested in doing catalog/retail/Internet business.
  • Consistently shop the competition to have a thorough understanding of competitive price points and trends.
  • Maintain good vendor communications and relations.
  • Secure accurate photography samples as needed.
  • Assist in the training and development of department clericals, assistants, and associate buyers.
  • Perform seasonal hindsight and recommend strategies to drive business.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree and fashion related marketplace knowledge 
  • 3 or more years of prior buying experience preferably in an Internet/retail environment
  • Understanding of computers and computer software
  • Requires problem solving, analyzing and reasoning skills
