Located in St. Louis, Missouri, Soft Surroundings was founded in 1999. Since that time, we've grown from a small catalog company into a multi-channel merchant with a large catalog circulation, a fast growing internet business and 74 brick and mortar stores. We attribute our phenomenal growth to the passion our employees who provide our customers with not only high-quality apparel, home and beauty products, but the understanding that our customers are not just purchasing an item, but an experience.

We are excited to add a Merchant to our retail apparel team. This person will have the ability to analyze the business and will have the expertise to execute merchandising strategies for apparel (tops and bottoms). We are looking for someone with a collaborative style, and someone who quickly understands and never loses sight of the brand.

Position responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute retail merchandising strategies that support the corporate business plan and continue to evolve the brand.
  • Aggressively manage in season business by adjusting assortments to meet objectives while maintaining brand standards.
  • Competitively shop in order to identify emerging trends and how they incorporate into the brand and customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in order to drive results through unique, brand appropriate products and well-executed initiatives while observing the Omni-Brand process and adhering to deadlines.
  • Partner closely with the planning team to develop inventory plans in order to achieve seasonal goals, capitalizing on historical data and market trends.
  • Partner with the marketing team to develop and support integrated product brand strategies that will drive traffic and support growth.
  • Mentor, develop and coach assistant and associates to progress to the next level, and be true ambassadors of the brand.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years apparel experience in the merchandising field with a successful track record of brand management.
  • Must have retail experience.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to back up buying decisions with numbers.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Embraces an entrepreneurial environment where employees are empowered to make decisions, while consistently striving for the best possible results.
  • Strong ability to build relationships.
  • Ability to lead successfully in a high-paced, rapidly growing business while staying true to the brand.
