Soft Surroundings is seeking a Planning Manager for our corporate headquarters in St. Louis, MO. The Primary responsibility of the Planning Manager is to lead the Planning and  Procurement teams in both the development and implementation of strategies that maximize sales and gross margin across all sales channels. The position responsibilities include planning merchandise strategies for the organization and managing the planning process which includes strategic multi-year plans, yearly budget and a rigorous monthly financial forecast. The Planning Manager will provide direction to merchant partners on our fiscal and seasonal merchandise plans for all sales channels.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct and develop the merchandise plan for the brand, including top-down and bottom up planning for sales, gross margin, weeks of supply, inventory turn and productivity in collaboration with Finance.
  • Manage and direct the open-to-buy to tie our receipt plans to our sales trends and budgeted inventory goals. Facilitate regular planning sessions and meetings to drive a successful forecasting process.
  • Enhance and streamline business intelligence through accurate and efficient reporting.
  • Prepare hindsight analysis for future plans.
  • Develop future promotion strategies, analyze promotional effectiveness and make recommendations.
  • Facilitate permanent markdown decision process.
  • Understand receipt flow and capacity constraints with help of other planner and Visual and Retail Operations.
  • Accurately assess financial risk associated with unproductive inventory and closeouts. Perform in-season discounting analysis to support exit strategies and related timing and execution.
  • Deep dive into style plans. Identify opportunities to drive style and material performance to increase top-line sales while mitigating bottom line risk.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required
  • Minimum 5+ years experience in planning, forecasting, allocation and procurement.
  • Experience in catalog industry and specialty retail stores.
  • Requires problem solving and formulation skills, math and calculation, analyzing, reasoning, data validation, reading and proof reading.
