Soft Surroundings is searching for a self-driven, experienced Assistant Merchant/Buyer, with a Beauty, Accessories or Gift background, and a proven track record of results, for our St. Louis headquarters.   This position will report to the Divisional Merchandise Manager of Beauty & Well-Being. Responsibilities:

  • Results driven merchant with the ability to identify and translate trends for the brand.
  • Assist in developing strategies across channels delivering a seamless experience to the customer.
  • Maintain and cultivate excellent partnerships with new and existing vendors to balance the line providing the customer with products that align with their needs.
  • Excellent negotiator and ability to work with outside vendors with-in margin parameters.
  • Strong communication skills and able to align cross functional partners on seasonal strategies.
  • Good understanding of the comp landscape.
  • Identify customer needs through analysis of reporting and trends.
  • Ability to identify and aggressively chase/reduce as business trends arise.
  • Support the daily operational functions within the designated buying area.
  • Great organizational skills.
  • Ability to adapt to a quick changing business environment.
  • Travel required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 1+ years relevant experience in a buying function.
  • Professional experience in negotiating internally and externally.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Articulate and efficient communicator
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
  • Must be proficient with Word, Excel and data analysis.
